Hanuman Jayanti Celebration in Delhi’s Jahangpuri being regulated by police this year

Clashes last year during Hanuman Jayanti created major disturbance in that area resulting to 8 police officers getting injured

The Hanuman Jayanti celebration in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri, which was marred by communal violence last year, is being regulated in consultation with the festival's organizers, authorities said on Wednesday.

It stated that the organisers had applied for approval to hold a Hanuman Jayanti procession in the area, and that the route had been mapped out.

"The celebration of Hanuman Jayanti at Jahangirpuri is being planned in consultation with the organisers." "We are ensuring that it takes place in a safe and secure manner," said Deependra Pathak, Special Commissioner of Police (law and order).

The Union Home Ministry asked all states on Wednesday to maintain law and order during Hanuman Jayanti and to keep an eye out for anything that could disrupt social peace and unity.

Following the communal violence last week, the MHA issued an advisory to all states and union territories to sensitise law enforcement agents.

On April 16, last year, clashes between two communities in Jahangirpuri resulted in the injuries of eight police officers and a local citizen due to stone-pelting and arson. Some cars were also set on fire.
