The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) led government won the trust vote that was moved by the opposition Congress in Haryana Assembly on Wednesday. 55 out of 87 MLAs present in the House voted against the no-confidence motion moved against the Manohar Lal Khattar government.
The discussion was six-hour long and the Speaker Gian Chand Gupta announced the result 55-32 in the House. 55 votes that were counted against the motion included BJP with 39 MLAs in the Assembly who got the support of 10 JJP MLAs, five Independents and lone Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) MLA, Gopal Kanda.
Members who backed the motion included 30 Congress MLAs and two Independents who had earlier withdrawn support. Leader of Opposition, Bhupinder Singh Hooda had moved a no-confidence motion against the ruling government claiming that the government had lost people's trust. Earlier, in the day he had referred to the ongoing farmers' protests and said that "more than 250 farmers died on the border."
After the floor test Mr Hooda said that although the government has won the trust vote in the Assembly, it has fallen in the eyes of the people. He said that the JJP MLAs had a chance to prove their commitment to the farmers and the masses but failed to do so.
