KMP Expressway blocked by farmers against three farm laws

Numerous farmers from different states of Punjab, Haryana Uttar Pradesh have been campaigning at the three border points of Delhi mainly Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur demanding a repeal of the three farm laws enacted by the Centre last year in September.

On Saturday, farmers have also blocked the Kundli -Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway at some places in Haryana. The blockade started at 8 am and would last about 24 hours. This 136 Km long KMP Expressway is also known as the western peripheral Expressway. As per the information, the protesting farmers said that emergency vehicles would be allowed to pass.

According to Harinder Singh Lakhowal, Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) said that "This protest will last for about 24 hours".The Centre says the new Farm laws will free farmers from middlemen by giving more options to sell their crops whereas protesting farmers say that these laws will weaken their Minimum Support Price(MSP). According to Director  General of Police (Law and order), Navdeep Singh Virk "Elaborate arrangements were in place to maintain peace and order, prevent any kind of violence and facilitate movement of public transport on the Expressway ".

Traffic divisions have been planned by affected districts, especially Sonipat, Jhajjar, Panipat, Rohtak, Palwal, Faridabad, Gurgaon and Nuh. Passengers coming from Ambala and Chandigarh on National Highway 44 may go towards UP's Ghaziabad and Noida via Karnal to Shamli and from Panipat to Sanauli.
