Haryana lowers legal drinking age from 25 to 21 years

Liquor to be sold under section 29 of the act


After the National capital city Delhi. Haryana comes in the same queue. The Haryana government passed the Haryana Excise (amendment) bill 2021 in the state legislative assembly. This bill lowers that age limit. Anyone consuming liquor can get it if the age is 21.


Earlier the age limit was 25. Now, the limit has been lowered to 21 years. Under section 27 of the act, the lease for manufacturing, wholesale and retail sale of any such country liquor or intoxicating drug was earlier granted by the state government to a man below 25. But now this has been reduced to 21.


According to the release from the government, it said "At the time of framing the excuse policy for the year 2021-2022, it was discussed that the above age limit may be reduced from twenty-five to twenty-one years, as many of the other states have prescribed lower age limits. The National capital territory of Delhi has also recently reduced this age limit to twenty-one. Moreover, the socio-economic conditions of the day gave Chan drastically from time when the people now are more educated and participating in new endeavors and also can take rational decisions when it comes to responsible drinking."


According to the information, under section 30 of the act, persons aged at least 21 years or more may be employed by the person who is licensed to sell any type of liquor. Which states that people over 21 can also be employed in the business but also, if any person acting on his behalf or selling under the age of 21 years shall be under the penalty to which the person has to bear a fine of rupees 50,000.
