Hathras Gangrape: 19 year old Dalit Women died after battling for life in Delhi.

Tongue was cut off and spine was severely injured.

A 19 year old Dalit Women has been brutally raped by four upper caste men of her
village and was attempted to murder by the criminals. The appalling incident took
place in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh on September 14. The brave survivor
succumbed to her injuries on 29 September. Her pitiable death has once again
raised an important issue of Women Safety in our country which is discussed every
now and then at every corner but often pushed under the carpet when it comes to
forcing the actions.
The Victim was admitted to a district hospital initially in pathetic condition which
had the capability to question mankind about her fault. Her tongue was cut off and
spine was severely injured. She was later transferred to Hospital in Aligarh before
moving her to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. The police reported that she was
dragged to field and was strangled to death by her dupatta but fortunately she
survived.
Based on statement given by the victim on 23 September in brief consciousness,
she accused Sandeep, her uncle Ravi and their friends Luv Kush of committing the
crime. The accused were arrested, charges of gangrape and attempt to murder were
pressed on them apart from charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities)
Act.
The mother of victim can't overcome the grief of losing her daughter and told the
sources "I was sitting 100 metres from her. I could have saved her. I wish I wasn’t
hard of hearing." The victim's brother accuses Sandeep of being an alcoholic and
harassment of many other women but being a part of upper caste no one had the
power and resources to report such incidents.
The horrific event revolved around the exploitation of poor by upper caste
members and negligence in enforcement of strict laws by the Government. Such
tragedies and predicaments are leading us to an utterly unsafe society for women.

The country in which Navratris are round the corner to worship womanhood and
strength is not expected to flood the headlines with such news of deteriorating
dignity and honour of citizens. Contemplate that even in 2020 women are braving
the ravages of long survived misogynism, patriarchy and are subjected to crimes
and limits set by this difficult world out there for them.
