Heavy Rain In Kerala

Red alert in 3 districts…

On Tuesday, heavy rain lashed Kerala.

It causes the uprooting of trees, damage to houses, and waterlogging.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for three districts - Idukki, Kasaragod, and Kannur - and an orange alert for the remaining 11 districts in the state.

Educational institutions have been closed in six districts, including Ernakulam, Kannur, Idukki, Thrissur, Kottayam, and Kasargod.

On Tuesday, Peermade in the Idukki district received 100 mm of rainfall in a single day.

The Kasargod collector has announced a holiday for schools only, while in Pathanamthitta district, schools have been temporarily converted into relief centers for those affected by the rain.

The district's schools functioning as relief camps have been closed.

To address the situation, Revenue Minister K Rajan chaired a high-level meeting of revenue officials, including district collectors, to review the situation.

The minister, in a Facebook post, asked people to take precautions but assured them that there was no need to panic.

He emphasised that the revenue department and the state disaster management authority are providing accurate information and control rooms have been set up in all districts.

Emergency Operation Centers have also been established in all taluks.

Rajan appealed to the public to take all necessary precautions and obtain information from reliable sources.

The heavy rains have resulted in several incidents where people narrowly escaped harm, as large trees were uprooted in various districts such as Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Kottayam, and Ernakulam.

Power cuts have been reported in many parts of the state due to damage to electric polls caused by fallen trees.
