Heavy rains hit Delhi, likely to provide relief from pollution

Rain may provide relief from pollution

Just a day after Diwali, heavy rains lashed in several parts of  Delhi and nearby areas, bringing much respite from the pollution which was expected to worsen the Covid infection tally in the capital.

According to India Meteorological Department, that the situation of air pollution in Delhi is likely to improve and strong winds observed in the afternoon might increase chances of rainfall which will hopefully give some respite from the stubble burning in crop fields  burning in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh. These states are also expected to observe light rains and thunderstorms in several parts.

The air quality index in the national capital crossed "severe category" in the morning,  worsening the pollution caused by burning waste in the neighboring states, it said that, "under the influence of a western disturbance isolated rain falls over plains of North East India and adjoining center on Sunday saw cloudy skylight, rains and thundershowers with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph in the afternoon".

Skymet Weather Services, a private weather forecasting agency said that, on the day of Diwali there has been a change in the direction of winds and clouds which were appearing in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, and North Rajasthan.
