Himachal Pradesh: Flash flood in Dharamshala followed by cloudburst

Due to the weekend, Dharamshala and other tourist attractions were packed with several tourists from Delhi and other plain areas.


Incessant rains triggered cloudbursts and flash floods in Bhagsu Nag area of Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh on Monday. Several videos have surfaced on different social media platforms where frightening visuals of water gushing rapidly through the parked vehicles can be seen. Due to the weekend, Dharamshala and other tourist attractions were packed with several tourists from Delhi and other plain areas. A cloudburst was reported in the Kangra district as well, which is 58 kms from Dharamshala. The level of River Manjhi that flows near Dharamshala has also increased, causing great damage to nearby shops, huts and hotels. So far, no loss of life has been reported. Other than the havoc in Dharamshala, National Highway of Shimla has been blocked near Jhakri, Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway 07 has been blocked due to a landslide and another landslide has been reported in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, according to Financial Express. After days of unbearable heat, heavy rains brought respite but also caused great damage to properties.
