Hit-and-Run in Jalandhar; One Died on the spot; Captured in CCTV

Two women were hit by a speeding car while crossing a road on Monday morning. The incident was captured on CCTV and the driver has been arrested.


Jalandhar: The cases of hit and run are increasing day by day in the country. Today, on the streets of Jalandhar, two young women were trying to cross a road and then a speeding car hit both of them, resulting in death of one and the other woman being critically injured.

This terrifying accident was captured on CCTV. The driver of the car who was a policeman has been arrested. Those two young women were seen standing on the road divider, were about to cross the road when the white Maruti Brezza was spotted and they tried to get out of the way.

According to the witnesses, the car was allegedly of inspector Amrit Pal Singh, that bumped into them and disappeared without reducing the speed of the car. The incident happened around 8:30 am on a road in the Jalandhar Cantonment area.

According to the reports of the officials, one of the women named Navjot Kaur, who worked in a car showroom, died on the spot and the other is hospitalised due to critical health conditions. Just after the incident, a large crowd gathered at the spot by the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway and blocked traffic.

The mother of the deceased Tejinder Kaur said, "My daughter left for work in the morning and was crossing the road near a railway crossing when the car hit them. The sub-inspector should be charged with murder."

Residents said they would not clear the highway unless Amrit Pal Singh was charged with murder. The protest disrupted traffic in parts of the city.
