How come after covid 19, the baby's eyes turn blue?

Treatment in Thailand...

A regular COVID-19 medication caused a 6-month-old boy to experience an uncommon medical side effect in which his dark brown eyes turned vivid blue.

The infant, who resides in Thailand, was identified as having COVID-19 after experiencing a fever and cough for a day, according to the medical journal Frontiers in Pediatrics. Three days of favipiravir medication made him feel better after developing COVID symptoms.

However, the baby's mother noticed a change in her baby's eye color, which went from dark brown to vivid blue, just 18 hours after starting the drug.

After noticing the color shift, the doctor decided to stop the medication. Five days after the medication was removed, the skin's normal brown color reappeared.

No bluish staining was seen in the skin, nails, or mucosa of the mouth or nose. After three days of favipiravir medication, symptoms got better.

Due to favipiravir-induced corneal darkening, the pediatrician suggested the patient stop treatment. After quitting the medication on Day 5, the cornea's color returned to normal, according to the medical report's authors.

It's important to note that children with mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms should take the antiviral medication favipiravir, which the Thai Ministry of Public Health licensed in 2022.
