I-T department finds 1.36 lakhs at MK Stalin's son-in-law's house

The I-T department began raids at 8 am on Friday and conducted searches at four locations after they had received information on movement of cash allegedly meant to bribe voters ahead of Assembly elections.

The Income Tax department found Rs 1.36 lakh in cash at Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin's daughter and son-in-law's residence after a day-long raid, sources told NDTV on Saturday. Reportedly, the sources said that nothing else was seized during the raid and the cash was handed over to the family members after they produced documents.

The Income Tax department began raids at 8 am on Friday and conducted searches at four locations after they had received information on movement of cash allegedly meant to bribe voters ahead of Assembly elections. MK Stalin' son-in-law, Sabareesan's house in Chennai's Neelangarai and locations linked to his associates, Karthik and Bala were searched.

The raids came a day after Mr Stalin's son Udhayanidhi, questioned what he called the "exponential rise in wealth" of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's son, Jay Shah. This was second time when such raids were conducted. Earlier, last month, I-T department had conducted raids at 10 locations related to DMK leaders including senior DMK leader EV Velu's residence in Tiruvannamalai, his constituency.

The searches also included a place owned by EV Velu where Mr Stalin had stayed for a night during the campaign. DMK General Secretary Duraimurugan had said that such raids would not stop them from winning the elections. The results of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will be declared on May 2.
