IANS- Budget Tracker's tag on Indian Economy

A large research base done by IANS- Budget tracker reveals the current economy status under the ruling party.

The Modi government in 2020 is getting the worst economic score since taking office in 2014, according to the IANS-CVoter Budget Tracker. 46.4 per cent said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the performance of the Central Government in the economic sector has so far been worse than expected. A small percentage of 31.7 percent said performance was better than expected.

This is the worst figure for any government since 2010, with the exception of 2013 when Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister and P. Chidambaram is the Minister of Finance. In 2013, 60 percent of respondents said that the delivery of the economic sector was worse than expected. Modi’s best economic approval rates came in 2017 when Arun Jaitley was Finance Minister. That year, 52.6 percent said economic performance was better than expected.

There was a significant decrease in the number of respondents who said the delivery of the economy was much worse than expected compared to the 2019 numbers of 39.6 percent. This figure was significantly lower in 2014 by 29.4 percent when the Modi government had just come into power. The slowdown in declining economic approval will be a cause for concern as the economy tries to revive the Covid year. The sample size of the poll is 4,000 plus and field work done in the third-fourth week of January 2021. The research theme is “Expectations for Union Budget”. - IANS
