IIT Delhi student commits suicide

Second case of this year so far...

New Delhi: At the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), a 21-year-old engineering student is claimed to have hanged himself on Friday night, according to police.

According to a senior police officer, Anil Kumar was perusing B.Tech program in mathematics and computing (session 2019–2023) and was staying at the institute's Vindhyachal Hostel.

The incident was reported at the Kishangarh Police Station about six o'clock.

Anil Kumar was given an extension of six months to clear his subjects as he could not qualify some subjects before he was required to leave the hostel room, officials said.

The fire department had to break the door because it was locked from the inside.

At the moment the door was broken, the chief security officer, the dean of students/CMO IIT, criminal and forensic teams, and others were there.

So far, no suspicious activity has been found. The police noted that inquest processes were ongoing.
