Campus Mourns, Tragic Loss


A 35-year-old researcher from IIT-Kanpur, identified as Dr. Pallavi Chilka from the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, was discovered hanging in her hostel room on Tuesday. Dr. Chilka, originally from Odisha, is the deceased in this tragic incident.

 

In Kalyanpur, police reported that Pallavi Chilka, the daughter of Madhusudan Shetty from Cuttack, Odisha, was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan in her hostel room. Upon receiving the information, the police and forensic team promptly arrived at the scene to commence investigations. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination.

 

The institute has notified Pallavi's parents, and they have departed for Kanpur, expected to arrive by Wednesday.

 

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Akash Patel, stated that this seems to be a case of suicide, pending confirmation from the postmortem report for the exact cause of the researcher's death. Meanwhile, IIT-Kanpur released a statement on Tuesday expressing sorrow over the untimely passing of research staff member Pallavi Chilka. Pallavi, who joined the institute for postdoctoral research, is remembered as a bright and promising young researcher by IIT-Kanpur.
