IMD issues orange alert in Delhi for Thursday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Delhi for Thursday as moderate alongwith heavy rain at isolated places is expected to lash the national capital tomorrow. The spell of moderate to heavy rain will start tonight, according to the IMD.

An orange alert is issued when weather is likely to get bad and has a potential to disrupt traffic, power supply and clog drains. According to the weather forecast, capital recorded a minimum temperature of 25.2 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is likely to settle around 34 degrees Celsius today. Strong winds have also been predicted for Wednesday.

This monsoon season, Delhi has already recorded 1,146.4 mm, which is the highest rainfall in 46 years. The Safdarjung observatory had last gauged 1,150 mm of rainfall in the year 1975. Over the next two days, Delhi is likely to create another record for monsoon precipitation, an IMD official said.
