IMD issues orange alert in Delhi; severe traffic jam after heavy downpour

The IMD has predicted moderate rain along with thunderstorms in parts of Delhi and heavy rain at isolated places today.


The national capital and its neighbouring areas received heavy rainfall Wednesday morning due to which several parts of Delhi were waterlogged leading to severe traffic jams.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in the national capital. The IMD has predicted moderate rain along with thunderstorms in parts of Delhi and heavy rain at isolated places today.

According to the IMD officials, Delhi has recorded 112.1 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. Earlier, the IMD had tweeted that thunderstorms with moderate to heavy intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of isolated places of Delhi, NCR- Gurugram, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Manesar, Bhiwani, Tosham, Narnaul, Mahendargarh, Jhajjar, Kosali during next 2 hours.

The Delhi Traffic Police notified through tweets that waterlogging was observed at following locations of Delhi- near Lajpat Nagar Metro Station, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, near Jungpura Metro Station, Aurvindo Marg near AIIMS flyover, from AIIMS to Moolchand and Ring Road near Moolchand red light, Azad Market Subway going towards Pratap Nagar and Zakhira underpass.

According to the forecast, the national capital will receive rain from September 1 to September 4.
