In 1993 Mumbai Serial Blasts Case, 4 Accused Sent To Judicial Custody

The four accused were produced before a special CBI court!


On Monday, the 1993 blast accused Abu Bakar, Sayyed Qureshi, Mohammed Shoeb Qureshi and Mohammed Yusuf Ismail Shaikh were sent to judicial custody till June 13 by a special CBI court in Mumbai.

Special Public Prosecutor Deepak Salvi representing the CBI, had sought their custody for 14 days more. The agency said that the accused Abu Bakar, Sayed Qureshi Shoe Qureshi, Yusuf Bhatka alias Yusuf Bata were involved in the 1993 bomb blast case.

It is alleged that, to achieve the object of said conspiracy, the accused, towards the end of January, 1993 or beginning of February, 1993, participated in the conspiratorial meeting in Dubai which was headed by the prime absconding accused Dawood Ibrahim, absconding accused Mohd Atened Dossa and convicted accused late Mustafa Ahmed Dossa, on whose directions, accused Abu Bakar, Sayed Qureshi, Shoeb Qureshi, Yusuf Bhatka, proceeded to Pakistan for taking arms training to avenge demolition of Babri Masjid.

According to the CBI, in pursuance of the meeting, the four accused went to Pakistan for training in the handling of arms and ammunition, throwing of hand grenades and making of bombs.

They also told the court that all the accused persons were absconding in the CBI case. In this case, the court had issued non-bailable warrants against them in 1997 and a red corner notice a year later and they were also declared proclaimed offenders.

The CBI said that the four accused persons are required to be confronted with some of the facts revealed by some other witnesses who also took training with them to handle the arms, ammunition and explosives in Pakistan or otherwise were involved in the process, so that the truth may come out.

The accused will have to be taken to some places to connect the dots in the further investigation, said CBI.

The agency also said that the custody of persons is essential to unearth the deep-rooted conspiracy of these four accused persons. "They are terrorists and hardened criminals, whose terrorist acts caused loss to hundreds of lives and properties worth crores. These accused persons were absconding for the last 29 years," CBI added.

The four accused were Initially arrested by the Gujarat ATS, and they were then handed over to the CBI to be brought to Mumbai for the blast case.
