INCOME TAX RETURN (ITR) DATE EXTENDED TILL 31ST DECEMBER

ITR date extended.


The government has extended the due date for filing the income tax returns for the financial year 2019 - 20 for the taxpayers Who need to get their accounts audited or furnish reports on the specific domestic or international transaction, the deadline is now extended till January 31st 2021. For the rest, it has been extended to September 31st 2020 as earlier it was November 30.

Several chartered accountant bodies have been arguing with the government to extend the returns filing timeline this year as due to covid-19 pandemic that has led to a national lockdown starting from the  24th of March. The government had an earlier extended deadline for July 31st to  November 30 but now it has been extended till 31st December.


To provide some relief to small and Middle-Class taxpayers the due date for the payment of self-assessment as for the taxpayers whose self-assessment tax liability is up to rupees one lakh had now been extended to 30th November.

According to the Central Board of Direct taxes, said in a statement on Saturday that, "These deadlines have been extended again to provide relief for the second time to small and middle-class taxpayers".

According to the finance minister, it said, Government has been receiving several representations regarding the extended due date for filing the annual return and reconciliation statement for 2018-19 underground that on account of covid-19 pandemic related restrictions, normal operation the business has still not been possible and several parts of the country that has been requested that the due dates for some be extended.
