India All Set For Inaugural India Pavilion At 75th Cannes Film Festival; Anurag Thakur

Union Minister, Anurag Thakur, shared pictures from Cannes 2022!


The Cannes Film Festival is extra special for many reasons this year. First, we have Deepika Padukone as part of the esteemed Cannes 2022 jury. And then, Cannes’ Marche’ Du Film will be celebrating India as its Official Country of Honor in 2022.

For the same, many iconic stars, including AR Rahman, Helly Shah, Pooja Hegde, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Hina Khan among others, will be seen walking the red carpet. What's more? On Day 2 of Cannes 2022, the India Pavilion will be inaugurated.

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs, Anurag Thakur, took to Twitter to share the news along with some exhilarating pictures from the Day 1 red carpet.

Sharing his excitement, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs, Anurag Thakur tweeted, "Indian stars shine the brightest at the #RedCarpet on #Cannes2022 opening night, as the largest-ever Indian delegation climbed up the iconic stairs of Palais des Festivals. India is geared up for the inaugural India Pavilion at 75th #CannesFilmFestival today. #IndiaAtCannes (sic).”

Speaking about the importance of India and its cinema at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, Shekhar Kapur said, “The reason I am here is to support the idea that India is to become the biggest and largest media entertainment platform in the world. We are celebrating our future, not just the past.”

Prasoon Joshi added, “We have learnt a lot in Cannes. There are two parts to it- the market and the other where films are showcased. This is a special year. We have taken this seriously. We are looking forward to having a fruitful discussion.”

Filmmaker and actor Vani Tripathi Tiku told ANI, “We have a showcase of 6 very young and independent filmmakers who will be benefiting from the market screening which will be happening at Cannes. We have treaties with 15 countries here at the festival. Looking forward to Cannes this year.” AR Rahman also shared his excitement.

Akshay Kumar was also supposed to join the Indian delegation on the Cannes red carpet but he had to cancel the commitment after he was diagnosed with Covid 19 recently.
