India’s Defence Forces Stocks Arms For 15 Days

Indian Armed Forces stock up for 15 days

India had taken a notable step in the middle of the conflict with China where it now authorizes its defence forces to assemble arms and ammunition for 15 days of intense war. The existing earlier stock for 10 days has now been increased to reserve ammunition for 15-I level at the minimum. This is authorized by the government to the forces to prepare for the front war with both China and Pakistan.

A government source spoke to a prominent news agency where it said “A number of weapon systems and ammunition are being acquired now under the authorizations of having reserves to fight 15 days intense war with the enemies. The stocking would now be at 15-I level from 10-I levels.” It further added that the authorizations for amplifying the stockings for the defence forces were approved sometimes back.

The defence forces are likely to spend an amount over 50000 crore from both the local and foreign sources for the acquisition of arms and ammunition. These steps are taken due to the ongoing conflict with China in the Eastern Ladakh.

The armed forces were allowed to stock 40 day intense war weapons many years ago but it was later brought down to 10-I level due to shortage of weapons and also due to changing warfare.

The Manohar Parikar led defence ministry’s Uri attacks made a realization that stocks of the war wastage reserves were low as the defence ministry increased the financial powers of the vice-chiefs of the Army, Navy and the Air Force to 500 crore rupees from 100 crore  rupees. All the three vice-chiefs were given emergency financial power to purchase weapons worth 300 crore and buy equipment they thought were important at the time of war.

It is alleged that the Chinese troops have been trespassing at multiple locations in Ladakh and have been trying to change the existing parameters at the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
