India's Second Longest Expressway Ganga's proposal cleared

The Ganga Expressway to be connected to almost 12 districts and connected to 6 lanes as per the proposal.


The new project of constructing of the Ganga Expressway in India which is the second longest way, is all set to begin by September this year after the state confirmed that it has already acquired  more than 80% land required for the expressway. The project, costing nearly Rs.36,000 crore and this project will be completed within the next 2 years.

The Ganga drive will start from Bijauli village of Meerut and will finish at Judapur Dandu village of Prayagraj. The expressway will pass through 12 districts in UP, such as Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. Almost 519 villages will be linked to the expressway.

The Ganga drive will tentatively have six lanes according to the proposal. However, if required then it can be extended to eight lanes.The highest speed of vehicles which will be running on the Ganga Expressway has been limited to 120 kmph, similar to some of the other expressways like the Eastern Peripheral highway. The expressway will save the travel time between Delhi and Prayagraj from 10-11 hours to just 6-7 hours after completing the project. It will have 2 toll plazas which will be based in Meerut and Prayagraj. To check the entry of stray cattle and locals, a precast concrete boundary wall will be constructed simultaneously. In all, there will be nearly 14 major flyovers, 126 minor bridges, 929 culverts, 7 ROBs, 28 bridges and 8 diamond interchanges along the Ganga Expressway. The width of the railway over bridges will be 120 meters.

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) drive Industrial Development Authority has stated that the Ganga drive proposal has been divided into 12 packages to ensure work is completed within the stipulated time period.
