Indian origin Surendran K Patel sworn in as District Judge in Texas

Surendran K Patel, an attorney in US Texas recently got sworn in as the Judge for the 240th Judicial District Court in Texas the Fort Bend County as reported by The Week Magazine. He is a 51 year old man who was born and brought up in Kerala. His parents were daily wage workers and therefore throughout his schooling and college he worked to earn money and support his family.

 

It has been reported that he dropped out of school after 10th grade, however after a yearlong break he enrolled himself at E. K. Nayanar Memorial Government College.

 

During his teen years used to roll Beedis and also worked as a laborer to earn money. 

 

He then wanted to study LLB at The Calicut Government Law College, but it was difficult for him due to their poor financial condition. To earn money for his college he got a job in a hotel and also received some help from his friends. He finished his law degree in 1995 and started working in Hosdurg, Kerala in 1996. He then went on to become a well-known lawyer gradually. It was in the 2007 that he moved to US where his wife had been chosen to work in a prominent medical facility there.

 

Surendran K Patel then sat for the Texas bar exam which he passed in the first attempt after which he applied for LL. M Program at the University of Houston Law Centre. After graduating in 2011 Mr Patel went on to work on cases related to Family law, criminal defense, civil and commercial litigation, Real estate and transactional matters and later set up his own law firm.
