'Meri Saheli' initiative for women safety


Indian Railways launched" Meri Saheli initiative" on Thursday, taking action on the security of women passengers.

According to a statement by national transporter initiative of Railway Protection Force in this strategy, it interacts with women passenger especially the ones who are traveling alone and a team of young woman RPF personnel visit at the originating station, the woman passenger then will be briefed about the precautions to be taken during the journey and told to dial 182 in case of any emergency or any problem they face during traveling.

Mere Saheli initiative was started as a pilot project in South Eastern Railway on 2nd of September after getting a positive response this was covered all area, The assigned  RPF at the destination collect the feedback from the end and the passenger gives the feedback is then analyzed and corrected, action if any taken if some distress call comes from a train covered under the memory cell initiative that is a portion of the following is monitored and a level of the senior officer, said the statement.

According to the railway ministry, it said that “It was felt that criminals involved in human trafficking may try to indulge in the trafficking of women and children taking advantage of the festive season rush as they are most susceptible to this crime. Action plan to prevent the threat of human trafficking during the upcoming festive season was discussed. It was decided that a maintained and concerted drive will be initiated to observe and arrest the traffickers".
