In a four-day health checkup camp set by the women and child development (WCD) department that took place from 11th-14th October across the Indore district, at least 482 severe acute malnourished (SAM) cases were reported. It can be highly risky if children are left untreated which can even result in their deaths.

During the four-day health check-up, the height and weight of children mostly belonging to city-based slums and rural parts were measured. After assessing the condition of the young population, the department has started monitoring the health of the affected children. They are being provided with required nutrition, regular check up and other medical assistance to nurse them back to good health in a month.

The health officials have also compiled a data of 1,115 severe underweight (SUW) children as per the ‘weight for age’ criteria and about 3,000 moderate acute malnourished (MAM) children as per the ‘weight for height’ criteria.
