Israel to Hold Elections 5th Time!

New leader of Israel will be announced after the elections...

The Israeli parliament has decided to dissolve itself, marking the fifth election in the country in less than four years. Yair Lapid who is currently the foreign minister of Israel will take over the control as caretaker PM of the Knesset.

Naftali Bennett is now the shortest-serving prime minister of Israel, from just after Friday midnight. Bennett stepped down as Israel’s coalition government collapsed. This can result in the return of the former leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, to power.

The coalition government of Israel was ideologically diverse and consisted of an Arab faction. The government collapsed within a year and removed the leader Benjamin Netanyahu from power after a stretched 12 years in power.

The motion to dissolve the parliament was passed with 92 in the favour of dissolving and no one opposing it.

Mr Lapid, the 58-year-old will become the country’s 14th Leader to hold the office. He was the brain behind the coalition government in Israel that brought together 8 parties of the Israeli political spectrum to find a common ground till it finally collapsed.

Mr Netanyahu who is formerly accused of accepting bribes and fraud seems to have a clear path back into power as he remains a relevant political figure in Israel. His popularity and relevance in Israeli politics is anticipated to be sparked even more as Joe Biden visits Israel in the coming week.

The new leader of Israel will be announced after the elections on 1 November.
