IT raids senior DMK leader EV Velu's residence

Mr Velu is seeking re-election from the Tiruvannamalai constituency from where he has been elected twice as a DMK candidate in 2011 and 2016.


The Income Tax officials on Thursday carried out searches at over 10 locations of senior Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader EV Velu, at the time when the party chief MK Stalin was campaigning for him ahead of the April 6 state Assembly elections, reported NDTV. Mr Velu's residence in Tiruvannamalai as well as his college where Mr Stalin had stayed last night, were also part of the search operation. Mr Velu is seeking re-election from the Tiruvannamalai constituency from where he has been elected twice as a DMK candidate in 2011 and 2016.

At the time of the raids, Mr Stalin was campaigning for Mr Velu in Tiruvannamalai. IT officials said they carried out raids based on “credible inputs of cash movement” during the poll campaign, according to NDTV. Reportedly, a tax officer in Delhi said searches are also being conducted in Chennai. Mr Velu is a five-time legislator and former State Minister for Food.
