Jagan Reddy's YSRCP sweeps municipal polls in Andhra Pradesh

The ruling party won close to 90 per cent of the MPTCs and a surprising 99 per cent of the ZPTCs.


The ruling  Yuvajan Sramika Rythu (YSR) Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh led by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy secured a landslide victory in the local body polls, the counting for which was held on Sunday. 

As per the last reports, the results were last declared till 7:30 pm, according to which, the party won 547 of 553 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) seats and 7,284 of 8,063 Mandal Parishads Territorial Constituencies (MPTC) seats.

The elections were conducted on April 8 for which the results were supposed to be declared on April 10 but as per the Andhra Pradesh High Court's ruling, the counting was stalled based on petitions filed by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the main opposition and the (Bharatiya Janata Party) BJP, among others.

The TDP won only three ZPTC seats and 675 MPTC seats while the BJP and its alliance partner Jana Sena did not manage to win a single seat in Zilla Parishads but it did win 23 and 85 seats in the Mandal Parishad elections, respectively.
