Jammu-Srinagar Highway Closed

After Fresh Landsides…

Jammu: On Wednesday, 01 February 2023, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic for the third consecutive day following fresh landslides in Ramban district and leaving more than 800 vehicles stranded on the road only.

The 270-kilometre-long highway is the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, and was blocked by mudslides and shooting stones between Chanderkote and Banihal in the district on Monday, Jan 30.

"There was a massive landslide on the highway at Rampari area in Banihal tehsil on Wednesday morning. Besides, another landslide took place in Wagon," an official told news agency Press Trust of India (PTI).

Large number of Men Power and machines have been deployed to clear the highway quickly, officials said, adding to this he said that it will take several hours to clear the area then only the highway will be opened.

Meanwhile, traffic officials have issued an advisory asking people not to travel on the highway.

Several inter-district roads are closed due to heavy snowfall in the mountainous districts of Jammu region, the officials added.
