The president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU), Aishe Ghosh will contest the West Bengal Legislative Assembly election from the Jamuria constituency. She is the first sitting JNUSU president to contest an Assembly election. Ms Ghosh will be fighting on a Communist Party of India (Marxist) ticket and will be supported by the Sanyukt Morcha.

"Will be contesting from Jamuria Legislative Assembly Seat as candidate of the CPI(M) ,supported by the Sanyukt Morcha. Requesting all of your support," she tweeted on Thursday morning. Ms Ghosh was severely injured in an attack on students and teachers of the Jawaharlal Nehru University in January 2020. The images and videos of blood streaming down Ms Ghosh’s face had gone viral. Several masked people had entered the campus with iron rods, glass bottles and had brutally attacked the students and teachers.

The Left and the Congress are fighting the Bengal election jointly, along with the Indian Secular Front (ISF).
