Joe Biden led airstrike on Syria militias

Air Strike on Syria Militia

The US President made the first bold use of military forces by carrying out airstrikes in Eastern Syria on sites joined to Iran supported groups, speculated to be involved in recent attacks in Iraq.

"The strikes were initiated in retaliation to recent attacks in Iraq against American and coalition personnel and the series of threats looming over the personnel," as said by Pentagon Kirby in a statement on Thursday Night. "The strikes successfully obliterated many facilities at the border control point that was used by a number of Iranian militant groups like Kait’ib Hezbollah and Kait’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada," he added. The assault took effect after a number of rocket attacks recently, on facilities used by the US in Iraq, which even killed a contractor working with the US-led coalition in Iraq. The statistics of casualties following the US strikes weren't clear.

At around 2am local time, a single F-15 jet fired, targeting a cluster of buildings which were speculated to be a transit point for smuggling militia members into Iraq as dictated by a US official. The location must have the presence of a handful of people. After the passage of a decade since the civil war, Syria's military holds a weak spot in order to respond to US attacks. Under the presidency of Donald Trump, the country faced two attacks by the US military over the use of chemical weapons by President Bashar al-Assad. The US tried to avoid rifts that might arise by striking Iran directly that's why it attacked a facility in Syria which is believed to be linked with Iranian militia groups. Biden won't want to widen the tensions between the countries as his administration is seeking Iran's return to 2015 nuclear deal that Trump withdrew 3 years ago.

"The attack seemed unambiguous," Kirby said while elaborating, "President Biden will act to defend American and coalition personnel. Similarly we acted in a deliberate manner to regulate the situation in Eastern Syria and Iraq." The strike was launched a day after Biden spoke to Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. The two leaders discussed the stress due to rocket attacks on Iraqi and coalition personnel. They concluded that the accused behind this should be held into account. White House reported this in a statement on Wednesday.
