Journalist Priya Ramani Acquitted By Delhi Court

Delhi Court acquits journalist Priya Ramani

Journalist Priya Ramani on Wednesday was acquitted by the Delhi Court in a criminal defamation case filed against her by MJ Akbar the former Union Minister. While acquitting the Delhi Court said to Ramani “You are acquitted from the present case” and added further “Woman has the right to put grievances even after decades".

The former minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar had filed a defamation case against the journalist Priya Ramani for accusing him of sexual misconduct. During the #MeToo campaign Ramani was the first women to accuse Akbar of sexual harassment during her job interview in 1994 in an article in 2017 and in a Tweet on 2018. These allegations against him had forced him to step down front the union ministry in 2018 on October 17. Last month through his lawyers Akbar told the Delhi court that Ramani “deliberately, intentionally, and maliciously” destroyed evidence by deleting the Twitter account.
