"Justify or make amends": HC tells Centre over oxygen crisis in Delhi

Senior advocate Rahul Mehra claimed that only Delhi had not received what it had asked for, while others got more than or close to what they had asked for.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the Centre that why were other states- Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, given more oxygen than they had asked for while Delhi did not receive the allocated amount of oxygen, the AAP government had requested for.

A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli told the Centre either to show some justification for it or "make amends" when the matter has been brought to their attention. Responding to the query, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said the central government will give reason as to why Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra received more oxygen than they had asked for. He added that there are states which received less oxygen than they had asked for. "We have been rationalising," Mr Mehta said.

Meanwhile, senior advocate Rahul Mehra gave the court a list of oxygen demands that were made by several states and the allocations that were made to them. He claimed that only Delhi had not received what it had asked for, while others got more than or close to what they had asked for. The Delhi High Court has been hearing several petitions related to oxygen crisis and other Covid-19 related issues that Delhi has been struggling with.
