Karnataka: 3 dead, 4 injured in Bengaluru godown blast

The blast occurred around noon at a godown which belonged to a transport company.


Three people died and four others sustained severe injuries in a blast that took place at a godown in New Tharagupet area in Bengaluru on Thursday. The blast occurred around noon.

According to Bengaluru South Deputy Commissioner of Police, Harish Pandey the incident occurred in a transport godown which was next to a puncture shop. He told the reporters that the blast took place due to some ''unstable chemical'' that was an industrial consignment.

He also said that around 80 odd boxes (of explosives) were stored at the storage facility and the probe was going on to investigate how many boxes had exploded and the reason behind the explosion. He added that the details will be revealed once the forensic team examines the incident site.

The godown belonged to a transport company, said the DCP. According to the preliminary reports, crackers were stored in the storage facility which was being used as a transit godown but the information needs to be verified, he added.
