Karnataka Assembly elections will be held on 10 May

Votes will be count on 13 May....


On Wednesday the Election Commission (EC) announced that Karnataka Assembly elections will be held on 10 May 2023 and counting of votes will be done on 13 May.

 

Total 5.23 crore electors were eligible to vote and the term of 224 seat in Karnataka Assembly till May 24. Apart from youth and urban apathy, the commission found, "money power", Chief Election Commission (CEC) Rajiv Kumar said this will be a challenge in Karnataka. The CEC also added, till April 1 all those turning 18 years of age would be eligible to get enrolled.

 

In the past five years, Karnataka has seen three Chief Ministers — JD (U)’s H D Kumaraswamy, BJP’s B S Yeddiyurappa and the sitting CM Basavaraj Bommai.

 

The EC also announced bypolls for state and Lok Sabha constituencies, addressing all vacancies till February. The CEC said there was no hurry to announce the bypoll for Wayanad, the Lok Sabha seat vacated by Rahul Gandhi on March 23 due to disqualification. The CEC said the Election Commission had six months to fill a vacancy and the trial court had given Gandhi 30 days’ time to seek legal remedy.
