Karnataka issues guidelines after Kerala reports 14 cases of Zika Virus, authorities have been asked to dispose solid waste to prevent Aedes breeding in peri domestic areas.


Amidst Covid-19, now cases of Zika virus is also creating panic among the people. Kerala reported around 14 cases of Zika virus in the state. Meanwhile, neighboring state Karnataka is on alert for its spread. On Fri it issued guidelines to prevent the spread of the disease in the state. The districts bordering Kerala including Chamarajanagqr, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi have been directed to stay vigilant.

According to the report by IANS, the order by  Trilok Chandra, state health commissioners said that surveillance should be carried in rural and urban areas across the state, "As monsoon season allows the proliferation of Aedes mosquito, which is a vector of Zika virus disease, surveillance should be carried in rural and urban areas in the state on a war footing." it also added that the authorities have enough to dispose of solid waste to prevent is Aedes breeding and Peri-domestic areas. "The vector management should include surveillance of Larvae biological and chemical control at household, community and institutional levels" He also directed authorities to conduct Aedes larval surveillance and across and source reduction activities in airports, seaports and rural and urban civic wards.

According to the statement by the Union Health Ministry, it said that six members Central team of experts has been dispatched to Kerala to monitor the zika virus situation and support the state government in the management of cases.
