Karnataka resumes schools for classes 6 to 8

The state also relaxed night curfew and announced new guidelines for Covid-19.


Covid-19 cases were at peak during the second wave of Covid-19 which led to the closure of schools, educational institutions and coaching centres. 

As many states are now resuming classes and reopening schools, Karnataka has also decided to reopen its schools for classes 6 to 8. Earlier, the classes for 9 to 12 were reopened on August 23.

According to the statement given by State Revenue Minister R Ashok, "In Kerala cases are going up day by day. In view of that, all the students and others coming to Karnataka will be kept under one week of institutional quarantine. After seven days, they will again undergo the Covid-19 test. "

Whereas Education Minister, BC Nagesh said, the classes for standard 6 to 8 will resume from September 6 in talukas where Covid-19 positivity rate is below 2 %. The Minister also informed that "classes will be conducted with 50 per cent attendance and five days a week." Whereas during the weekend, classes will be sanitised and fogging and disinfection will take place.

Meanwhile, Karnataka on Sunday reported 1,262 Covid-19 cases and 17 deaths which took the overall infection to 29,47,255 and the death toll to 37,278.
