Kashmiri Gate becomes the country's highest escalator metro station

After adding two new escalators, the total number of escalators here has increased to 47.

Kashmiri Gate Metro Station, which has emerged as the largest interchange hub of Delhi Metro in terms of footfall, has once again registered its name in the pages of history. Recently DMRC has installed two new escalators here, after which the total number of escalators at this metro station has increased to 47. It has become the only metro station in the country, where such a large number of escalators are engaged. Some time back the country's highest 14.5-meter height escalator was also installed at this metro station, but now the Janakpuri West Metro station of Magenta Line has replaced it, because in Phase-3 there is an even higher 15.6 meter. The height escalator has been installed.

Another unique thing is that to interchange between the violet and the red line at the Kashmiri Gate, the passengers have to go through the escalators at one place within the station, through which there are 6 escalators. Passengers move between the platform and the Concourse area. Not only in Delhi and in the country, but at any metro station all over the world, there are probably so many escalators simultaneously. In such a situation, this is a very unique example in terms of engineering.

DMRC officials said that for the convenience of passengers, a total of 10 new escalators have been installed at 9 stations across the metro network. Two of these escalators have been installed at the Kashmiri Gate Metro station, after which the total number of escalators at this station has increased to 47. Apart from Kashmiri Gate, 8 other stations where new escalators have been installed include Rithala, Uttam Nagar, Nawada, Rajouri Garden, Shadipur, Yamuna Bank, Subhash Nagar and R.K. The Ashram Metro station is included. As far as Kashmiri Gate is concerned, it is the only multilayered triple interchange station of the metro network, which connects the Red, Yellow and Violet lines of the metro. This is the reason that during this peak station there is a huge rush of passengers during peak hours. Not only this, in the next phase, in the 22 major stations of the DMRC Metro network, where the new escalators are preparing to be installed, 5 escalators will be installed at the Kashmiri Gate, after which the number of escalators will be 52.

Among the 22 stations where preparations are being made to install additional escalators, Dilshad Garden, Mansarovar Park, Shahdara, Seelampur, Netaji Subhash Place, Indralok, Model Town, Chhatarpur, Rajouri Garden, Tagore Garden, Jhandewalan, Rajendra Place, apart from Kashmiri Gate. Laxmi Nagar, Noida Sector-15 and Ashok Park Main etc. are included. 1. The installation of escalators at all these stations will be completed in the next 5-6 months. The escalators will then be extended to 32 other metro stations by March next year. These include Adarsh Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Noida Sector-16, Mundka and many other stations. There are more than 1100 escalators in the metro network of 285 stations in Delhi-NCR.
