Kejriwal: BJP is planning to turn Delhi into UT

Invoking sentiments of democracy and constitution, Kejriwal condemns BJP for turning Delhi into UT

Kejriwal stood at the podium for a 30-minute-long speech at the Delhi assembly on Tuesday, where he addressed his concerns over Delhi allegedly being turned into UT. He alleged that Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to convert Delhi into a full union territory in order to eliminate elections and consequently the murder of ‘Jantantra’ (rule by the people).

On the second day and the last day of the Delhi assembly’s session he said, “The BJP leaders are going around threatening the people that they will get legislative assembly elections cancelled too by making Delhi a full Union Territory from a UT with an elected house”. He stressed the point that if elections are withheld from the citizens, it tears apart the sheer concept of democracy in the country. That it would eliminate the say of people and the rule by the people and the country will be finished.

Kejriwal also announced that in such a scenario he will not stand by and see the country tear apart. That AAP will take the matter to the court and ensure elections are held. “We know BJP will not let MCD elections take place. We will have to take up this matter in the court of law. BJP can do whatever it wants, but the AAP will not let it sabotage democracy. We will get elections held by doing whatever it takes” he said in the assembly.

Kejriwal also urged people to demand elections as it is their right. He said that if Delhi is forcibly turned into a full union territory, “People of Delhi will come on the streets against the move”.
