Why National Farmers' Day Is Observed In India on 23rd December?


Kisan Divas or Framer’s Day observer every year on 23rd  December in India to mark the birth anniversary of Choudhary Charan Singh.

In 2001 the government decided to mark Charan Singh's birth anniversary as Farmer’s Day who was the fifth ‘Kisan’ Prime Minister of the Indian from July 1979 and January 1980 widely considered as country’s most famous peasant leader.

Having a farmer background helped him to comprehend the actual constraints of the farmer. He is the man who introduced pageant issues into India's Electoral Politics and bought many farmer friendly policies to improve the lives of Indian Framers and contributed a lot to them.

His short tenure has showcased a swing of agricultural reforms and policies introduced in India. His avid petition unified all the farmers against the landlords and moneylenders.

1939, he introduced the Debt Redemption Bill in order to give relief to the farmers from moneylenders. Chaudhary Charan Singh worked for abolishing the zamindari system and in 1953, he got the Consolidation of Holdings Act passed.

Following the footsteps of Sir Chhotu Ram's legacy, he founded the Kisan Trust on December 23, 1978 to bring the issues of small and marginal farmers to the forefront.

Being an author he expressed his feelings on farmers their issues and remedies. He worked relentlessly in making rural people self-reliant and for prosperity of Indian agriculture.

On kisan Divas awareness drives and campaigns are organized across nation to educate people on the importance of farmers and their contribution to the economy.
