Kolkata witnesses heavy rainfall, flight operations partially affected

Several flights were delayed, but no cancellations were reported.

Kolkata witnessed heavy rainfall due to which the flight operational services were partially affected at Kolkata airport. Several flights were delayed, but no cancellations were reported.

According to the Met department, an intense spell of a thunderstorm with moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to continue over some parts of Kolkata and neighbouring areas of North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah and Hooghly districts during the next 2-3 hours. The heavy rains have led to traffic congestion and water-logging in low lying areas. The Met department has also suggested to avoid areas that are witnessing waterlogging and traffic jams.

Meanwhile, other states are also witnessing heavy rain across the country. The IMD predicted heavy rains for Odisha state and also issued a red alert across the state. Delhi too witnessed heavy rain leading to overflow of water and waterlogging issues in several parts of the capital. The waterlogging led to traffic congestion throughout the city.
