Lakhimpur Kheri violence: Union Minister's son Ashish Mishra appears before police for questioning

Ashish Mishra had skipped police summons on Friday citing health issues.


Union Minister of state for home Ajay Kumar Mishra's son Ashish Mishra appeared on Saturday before the Uttar Pradesh police for questioning who has been accused of running over protesting farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh on October 3.

Ashish had skipped police summons on Friday citing health issues. Reportedly, current interrogation is going on at the Crime Branch office in Lakhimpur Kheri police lines.An FIR had been filed against Ashish and others and he had been booked for murder and other criminal offences in connection with the incident in which eight people including four farmers had died. Farmer bodies have alleged that a vehicle which was part of the Union Minister's convoy of cars mowed down the protesting farmers. They have alleged that Ashish Mishra was driving the car that ran over the protesters.

On Thursday, a notice had been put outside Mr Mishra's residence summoning his son to appear before the police officials for questioning at 10 am on Friday. However, he skipped the questioning.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday had directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file a status report by Friday on who are the accused against whom the FIR has been filed in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and how many of them have been arrested so far
