Lakhs Affected And More Than Hundred Die In Assam Floods

The Assam Floods are continuously griming more!


Approximately 108 people have lost their lives so far and almost 55 lakh people affected by these severe floods followed by landslides.

 

 

Though the flood situations have fairly eased on Friday. But unfortunately, it still left 10 more people dead, including 4 children.

 

 

The pre-monsoon rains are lashing the state ever since April.

 

 

Silchar, the southern region of Assam headquartered in the Cachar District considered to be the nerve of the valley, remains in a critical situation.

 

 

The Brahmaputra and Barak rivers with their tributaries are in a deluge, even though floodwaters have started receding in a few areas, officials said.

 

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that it has further accelerated the rescue and relief operation with more resources maneuvered in the affected districts, mainly Cachar.

3 lakh people are affected by acute food shortage, and lack of clean drinking water and medicines as almost  entire Silchar is submerged in flood waters, officials said.

 

Food packets, water bottles, and other essential items are being dropped in these areas by the Air Force helicopters, they further added.

 

The worst-affected district is Barpeta where 10,32,561 people are suffering, followed by Kamrup where 4,29,166 people have been hit.

 

In all, more than ten thousand hectares of crop area have been flooded.

 

Largescale erosion has been reported in the districts of Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang and Dhubri districts.
