Landslide In Maharashtra's Raigad

10 Dead, 100 Feared Trapped…


Mumbai: On Wednesday night, ten people were killed and over 100 are feared trapped due to a landslide in Maharashtra's Raigad district.

The incident took place near Khalapur, where several houses of a tribal hamlet are located. So far 75 people have been evacuated.

The landslide caused a large amount of soil and rocks to fall from a hill, burying about 30 houses.

Irsalwadi, where the incident occurred, is a remote village on top of a hill. The terrain is difficult and there is no proper way to the village. The only way to the village is a 1 km trek.

CM Eknath Shinde also arrived at the location of the landslide on Thursday and is assessing the situation.

The CM is meeting with officials to discuss how to speed up rescue efforts and safely evacuate the trapped under the debris.

Two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams reached the spot and started search and rescue operations following the incident. Two more teams from Mumbai have also joined the operation.

The NDRF, Navi Mumbai fire brigade, and police have reached the location of the landslide.

There are also reports of one fire brigade personnel dying while climbing to the location.
