Landslide victory for YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh municipal polls

The results were declared on Sunday in which the party won almost all municipal corporations.

Jagan Mohan Reddy's Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) won a landslide victory in the municipal elections in Andhra Pradesh. The results were declared on Sunday in which the party won almost all municipal corporations. The ruling party left all opposition parties shocked including Telugu Desam Party (TDP) as YSRCP won all 11 municipal corporations and 73 out of the 75 municipalities, according to The Times of India.

The TDP won two civic bodies- the Tadipatri and Mydukur municipalities while Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AMIM) won only one municipal ward in Hindupur town. AMIM contested elections in Andhra Pradesh for the first time. The elections were held on March 10.

YSRC's victory in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur came as a big jolt to N Chandrababu Naidu's TDP. If YSRC wins the post of chairperson, then the party will get control of all the civic bodies in Andhra Pradesh. YSRC's victory is much better than the party's performance in Assembly elections in 2019 where it had won around 85 percent of the Assembly seats and also last month's panchayat polls where it had won 83 percent of the panchayats.
