The Ministry of Defense has rejected the claim of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in which he said that India's claim is only up to Finger 4 on the north bank of Pangong Lake.
Former President of New Delhi Congress, Rahul Gandhi, had made serious allegations against the central government on the disengagement issued on the China border. At a press conference on Friday, Rahul had termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as 'cowardly', citing the defense minister's statement in Parliament (on the current situation in East Ladakh). The defense ministry has stated Rahul's allegations. There is no direct mention of Rahul in this, but there are discussions of many claims made on his behalf. Rahul said that the territory of India is on the northern bank of Pangong Lake up to Finger 4. The Ministry of Defense has said that the line of actuarial control (LAC) is on Finger 8 according to India.
According to the Ministry of Defense, it has taken cognizance of wrong and misleading claims being made in the media and social media regarding the ongoing disengagement at Pangong Lake. According to the ministry, the position of the defense minister has told both houses of parliament about the situation there. Nevertheless, the truth of some things about which false claims are being made are as follows:
§ To say that the Indian territory is up to Finger 4 is wrong. The area of India is shown on the map and includes the area of 43,000 square kilometers which has been in illegal occupation of China since 1962.
§ Even according to India, the LAC is on Finger 8, not Finger 4. This is why India has been consistently asserting the right to patrol Finger 8, the same has been repeated in the current dialogue with China.
§ Permanent posts on both sides on the northern shore of Pangong Lake are quite old. On the Indian side, this is Dhan Singh Thapa's post, which is near Finger 3. China's permanent post is east of Finger 8. As per the current agreement, forward deployments will be withdrawn from both sides and these permanent posts will be deployed.
§ India has not lost any territory by this agreement. In contrast, India has restored the LAC honor and prevented any unilateral change in the status quo.
§ It was also clarified in the statement of the Defense Minister that there are some problems that are yet to be solved like Hot Springs, Gogra,and Depsang. The discussion will begin within 48 hours of completion of disengagement at Pangong Lake.
§ In East Ladakh, the defense of the nation and land could be done because the government showed full confidence in the capabilities of the armed forces. Those who doubt the achievements achieved by the sacrifices of our military personnel are insulting them.
