Lifetime imprisonment to Asaram Bapu

Logged against rape case in 2013

On 31 January 2023, the Gujrat court sentenced the 81-year-old self-styled godman Asaram Bapu to the lifetime imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2013 in Jodhpur jail.

As per the case registered by the victim who stayed in the ashram near Gandhinagar in Gujarat that she got raped in the ashram in 2013.

Following the trial on 31 January, Asaram was present through a video link.

The additional session judge DK Soni ordered lifetime imprisonment after holding him guilty and a compassion of Rs 50,000 to the victim. The order is done under section 376 (Rape) of the Indian penal code (IPC) and the 377 (Sodomy)

On the same day of making the complaint, the victim’s younger sister filed a similar complaint against the son of the accused, Narayan Sai for sexually exploiting her in the ashram of Surat district. Sai was convicted of rape and in life imprisonment by the Surat Court.
