Lift collapsed in an under-construction building in Maharashtra's Thane

7 workers killed...

In a building under construction in Thane, Maharashtra, on Sunday, a lift crashed, killing at least seven construction workers and injuring one more.

Today at 5:30 pm, when the workmen were descending from the 40-story building after finishing waterproofing work on the terrace, an accident happened.

According to Yasin Tadvi, who is in charge of Thane's disaster management unit, it appears that one of the construction lift's support cables broke, causing the event.

The elevator that crashed down from the 40th floor and landed at P3 (three levels below ground in the parking area) was a construction lift, not an ordinary elevator, Yadav added.

Witnesses immediately notified the neighborhood police station and fire department.

Despite the quick action, the collision killed five workers instantly, while another died from his injuries.

Authorities are right now looking into what caused the elevator to fall.
