Liquor prices increased in Tamil Nadu

Decision taken at a cabinet meeting on March 5th 2022


Price hike in fuel including CNG, LPG, Milk, and Now increment in Liquor prices have been increased in the Tamil Nadu State. The cost of liquor in Tamil Nadu has been increased by Rs10 for a 180ml bottle and Rs20 for a 375ml bottle of liquor. 



As per the information, the hike in prices will be observed in the Tamil Nadu State from (March7) the price rise becomes effective from today.



According to the information, this decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting held on Saturday, March 5. Liquor is sold in Tamil Nadu under the state's banner, called Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC).



The previous price hike for liquor in Tamil Nadu came in May 2020. The prices of liquor were raised by a maximum of Rs20 from May 7 in Tamil Nadu. Retail outlets had opened for business for the first time in over 40 days due to the Covid-19 lockdown.



This increment in prices of liquor comes after the Reopening of shops after the Covid led lockdown. The state closed the shopping complexes, public spaces, bars, and other things that were restricted during the Covid peak.



This would be the first hike effected by the DMK government since the earlier revision by the previous AIADMK government was in May 2020 following the outbreak of Covid-19. Two sources, who are privy to the developments, said the price increase was on cards. Pointing out that the state government has given its nod for the purpose, they said the increase will be across the brands.
