LJP MPs join hands against Chirag Paswan to oust him as party leader

During last year's Bihar Assembly Elections, the LJP had left the NDA which included JD(U) and BJP, due to its differences with Nitish Kumar and contested the elections as a separate party.

Five of six MPs of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) joined hands against their party president Chirag Paswan and wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker to identify them as a separate group, reported NDTV. Chirag Paswan is one of the members of Lok Sabha and is the son of LJP's founder Ram Vilas Paswan who died last year.

Chirag's uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras is the member of Lok Sabha from Hajipur of Bihar and is leading the revolt to oust the party president. Mr Paras asserted that it was the desire of five MPs to save the party. "I have not split the party, I have saved it," he added.

During last year's Bihar Assembly Elections, the LJP had left the NDA which included JD(U) and BJP, due to its differences with Nitish Kumar and contested the elections as a separate party. However, the party won only one seat, it caused great damage to the JD(U) as its tally dropped from 71 to 43. Due to this reason, the JD(U) had scored third position in the state assembly polls, after the BJP and the opposition RJD.
