Local BJP leader Sumit Jaiswal, 3 others arrested in Lakhimpur Kheri Case

The four accused have been arrested by the Lakhimpur Kheri Police and SWAT team of the Crime branch.


Four accused in Lakhimpur Kheri case were arrested by the police on Monday, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) local leader, Sumit Jaiswal. The accused were allegedly inside the SUV that mowed down the protesting farmers on October 3 in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the senior police official, Jaiswal along with Shishupal, Nandan Singh Bisht and Satya Prakash Tripathi have been arrested by the Lakhimpur Kheri Police and SWAT team of the Crime branch. The search for the four accused started when the video of Jaiswal went viral who was seen escaping the incident site.

Earlier, Jaiswal had filed a murder FIR against unnamed farmers, claiming his driver, friend and two BJP workers were beaten to death after their vehicles lost control due to heavy stone pelting and accidentally hit farmers.

In the viral video of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, the viewers witnessed the BJP leader Sumit escaping and hiding behind the protesting farmers.

According to the witnesses of the incident, four farmers along with a journalist were run over by a convoy of three vehicles, one of which belongs to Union Minister of state for home, Ajay Mishra. His son was arrested on 9th October 2021. After five days he was filed in a murder case then he was immediately arrested. The family of the deceased complained about the Union Minister's son, Ashish Mishra that he had allegedly crushed the protesting farmers with his SUV. He was arrested after 12 hours of questioning regarding the case.

An FIR was lodged at the Tikona police station on October 3. Later, Sumit Jaiswal was arrested but he claimed that his car was not moving and the farmers had attacked him.
